You shouldn’t miss out on a visit to Inyo National Forest which covers nearly two million hectares from eastern Nevada to California’s snow-capped mountains. Trips to Mount Whitney (the highest point in the United States) will enlighten your senses amongst the dense pine forests in Bristlecone Shulman. Another interesting option is to organise a snowmobile trip where you’ll be driven to an altitude of 9.600 ft to enjoy a picnic with the spectacular mountain panoramic views before descending and making your own tracks on virgin powder routes.
Cross country ski lovers will find 19 kilometres of prepared pistes. Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center offer guided outings. Lakes Basin Tours offer trips around the lakes that are near to the station. The Full Moon Tour is a special route which is only available on the days when there is a full moon, and at the end of the route you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the moment with hot drinks and snacks.
Mammoth offers a wide variety of activities off the pistes too with cutting edge shops showcasing the latest fashions, various wellness centres and spas where you can relax, and plenty of lively bars and restaurants. Families with young children can have fun in Woolly’s Tube Park and Snow Play where there are snowmen, sledges and mini games available. This also includes a free cable car trip to Mammoth’s peak from where you’ll have incredible views.
