Heavenly Mountain Resort

Heavenly Mountain Resort

South Lake Tahoe - California, United States

Snowboard, Ski

Heavenly Ski Resort is one of the largest and most important winter sports destinations in the United States. Located in the south of Lake Tahoe on the border of Nevada and California and surrounded by beautiful tree covered mountains, it’s a paradise for any rider. Thanks to the 29 ultramodern lifts, you can access the 97 runs between the hundred year old pine trees, some great off piste options and four snowparks. You’ll need a few days to get the most out of the resort.

The terrain in the Nevada zone, around the Milky Way is more difficult and freeriders can enjoy good off piste runs after a short hike to the Mott & Killebrew Canyon where there are ravines, bowls, and descents through the glades. In the California zone there are also various well known runs such as Maggies Canyon and Powder Bowl. Heavenly is a demanding resort with its advanced off piste runs, but beginners also have options and can find smooth and wide slopes around Mombo Meadows and Canyon Lifts.

Freestylers can go to the High Roller Terrain Parks which are excellently maintained, designed to suit various levels and have views of Lake Tahoe. The Progression Park, to the right of Groove Park, is aimed at beginners and has easy boxes, rails, rollers and two small kickers. Groove Park is the next step up and has easy lines with rails, boxes, wedges, donkeys, recycled pieces and small jumps. It’s the first park to open at the beginning of the season and is situated by the Groove chairlift in the California zone. The Ante Up Park is aimed at intermediate and advanced riders and boasts a long slopestyle line with boxes, rails and jibs. It’s below the Tamarack Express chairlift in the Nevada zone. Finally, the High Roller Park is for experts only. It has a medium double jump line, rails, wall rides and recycled features as well as a long 18 foot halfpipe. You’ll find it between the Sky Express and Canyon in the California zone.

The winter season begins at the end of November and if the conditions permit, the resort can be enjoyed until the beginning of May. The resort has snow cannons which help to keep 70% of the runs open if there isn’t enough precipitation. The off piste runs have more coverage during January and February.
