Samnaun Ravaisch - Graubunden , Switzerland

Snowboard, Ski

The Samnaun resort is in the canton of Graubunden, in the Inn district, in the east of the Swiss Alps, just one kilometre from the Austrian border. The resort is connected to Ishgl and together they form the Silvretta Arena, the biggest skiable domain in the eastern Alps. 238 kilometres of pistes await you with 44 state of the art lifts and the first double decker cable car in the world, the Doppelstock-Luftseilbahn, which can carry 180 people.

Samnaun doesn’t just have ultra-modern lifts and good prices, it’s also home to a terrain park that is suitable for all levels and long, quiet, excellent quality pistes from an altitude of 1.400 m to 2.875 m. Idalp and Alp Trida are the longest pistes in the eastern Alps. Ninety percent of the pistes are dedicated to intermediate and advanced riders. Piste 80 is one of the best runs with a fast 11 kilometre descent. It can be accessd by the Palinkofbahn at 2.864m. Freeriders have 14 ungroomed runs around the resort. To the right of the Piz Val Grondabahn lift at 2.812 m, there is a very good run that links up to pistes 40, 41 and 42. The Winterwandemwerg Ravaisch zone also has some very good off piste runs.

The Obstacle Park is an area of terrain with strategically placed elements like barrels, rails and lines of kickers. It is for advanced levels and can be accessed by the N4 lift. It’s not as big as the PS Vita Snowpark in neighbouring Ischgl, which is one of the longest in Europe. To access the Ischgl snowpark you can take the B1 lift. It has over 20 kickers from 6 to 20 metres, 30 jib and slide elements including SPC tubes, classic rails and boxes, 2 solid corners, a tubespine, a Big Air Bag, and a Crossline with waved runs and 14 steep banks. The park is divided into three areas. The first is the King-size Park and it is where you’ll find the pros training and a long line of 20 elements. The second, Public Park, is open to anyone who thinks they can handle the lines of kickers from 6 to 15 metres and countless ramps and rails. Finally, Beginner’s Park is for first timers and those who want a more relaxing experience. There you’ll find small donkeys and wide boxes. If you want to relax but keep watching the action, there are two restaurants with sun terraces nearby.

The resort opens for the winter season in the middle of November and closes in the middle of May. The snow quality is excellent throughout the whole season but the best conditions can be found between January and March. The opening and closing festivals are a good time to visit as there is always a good atmosphere in the resort during these dates and big international artists play at the concerts.
