The Obertauern ski resort is located in Radstädter Tauern, in the southeast of Salzburg, Austria. The resort is orientated around freeriding as the elevation of 2.526 metres and good snow quality makes for some great off piste skiing. It’s also the home of the professional snowboarders Doresia and Heidi Krings. If you want to enjoy a natural snowpark the best option is to contract the services of a guide to discover the fresh lines and natural kickers that are waiting for you. Zehnerkarrinne takes you through a gully and is the most popular off piste run. Some easier runs are Mankin Skiroute and Gamsleiten. They take you through trees and back to the base of the resort.
In Kehrkopfbahn, freestylers have a snowpark which is suitable for all levels. It has some small beginner elements and rails along with 12 m kickers, a 6 m wide and 15 m long bowl. The park has 12 lines, 200 m vertical descent and is 1,5 kilometres long. With 100 kilometres of pistes, beginners have smooth, wide slopes to practise on and those who like black runs can do some fast descents in one go, from the peak to the base of the resort. There is also a separate area for kids. Obertauern organises many themed events, especially at the weekends, so you’ll always find some sort of activity or competition going on. On Mondays and Tuesdays you can experience night skiing on the Edelweissbahn piste until 22:00.
