Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen

Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen

Innsbruck - Tyrol, Austria

Snowboard, Ski

Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen, which has the same name as the city of Innsbruck, the capital of Tirol, can be found in the heart of the Alps in western Austria, in Inn Valley. It’s full of history and culture and is where emperors like Maximiliano I and Fernando II resided in imperial palaces in the XVI Century. It’s an alpine city and is strongly related to active mountain holidays. It’s hosted the Winter Olympic Games twice and is a very important place for the industry brands. For example Burton opened its first operational centre outside of North America there.

In the nearby surroundings you can choose between many stations within 45 minutes and with the Innsbruck Glaciar Ski Pass, you can access all of them with the free local bus. The Nordkettenbahnen offers a transport service that will take you directly from the city to the nearest mountain in less than 20 minutes if you have the ski pass.

Once you’re there, you’ll find a variety of pistes for all levels with incredible panoramic views of the city. The nearest freeride routes with long descents can be found in the Igls, Mutters and Schlick zones. One thousand metres above Innsbruck is the Axamer Lizium station which can be accessed by the Olympic tram. The pistes are clearly marked but require an advanced level. Patscherkofel and Nordpark, with their very difficult steep runs, are nearer. The Stubai Glacier is higher than 4.000 metres, is open 365 days a year and is within everyone’s reach but make sure you are prepared for the freezing temperatures.

Skylinepark is a world class ‘in city’ snowpark with big air jumps, kickers and a 120 m x 6 m half pipe. The park has a huge screen where you can watch your jumps whilst you listen to the live music and enjoy the superb panoramic views of the city in the background. On Friday nights from 18:00 till 22:00, you can join in on the night session at the ‘Rock the Skylinepark’ and party afterwards at the Cloud9 Igloo Bar.

Like every year, depending on the first quality snowfall, the station opens during the first week of December and if the conditions permit, it stays open until the middle of April. To enjoy the station and most importantly, the whole area of Tirol, you should program your trip between mid-January and mid-March as this is when the station is at its best.
